iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X?

Picking an iPhone used to be so simple. Remember when you “just get the new one?” But, in 2017, Apple released three new iPhones with two sizes to choose from. There’s an upgraded 8 Plus, which has the retina display, home button, and all. Then, there’s the fancy iPhone X, which has the OLED display and a TrueDepth camera.
So, which one should you buy? Well, you can’t really go wrong with either pick. You can go with the 8 Plus a lower price, an edge of battery life, and a familiar home button and interface. Or, you can pick the iPhone X if you’re looking for a more compact big-screen phone, and curious about the front-facing, 3D depth-sensing Face ID camera.

iPhone 8 Plus

Advantages:

  • Battery life: Longer battery life compared to the iPhone X.
  • Rear cameras: You get most of the iPhone X’s camera strengths, such as 2x optical zoom and Portrait Mode.
  • Traditional 16×9 screen: The 5.5-inch screen of the 8 Plus is smaller than the 5.8-inch screen of the iPhone X, but it has the more familiar 16×9 aspect ratio of your HDTV, which is the size that’s best optimized for most apps, videos, and games.
  • Some iPad-like app features: Includes landscape mode and in-app split-screen that aren’t available on the narrower screen of the iPhone X.

Disadvantages:

  • OIS only on one rear camera: Optical image stabilization on one of its two cameras.
  • No fancy front camera tricks: There’s no TrueDepth from camera, meaning no Portrait Mode in selfies. There’s also no iPhone X 3D-scanning face app tricks.
  • Not as hand-friendly as the X: If you have small hands, it’s not comfortable to hold.

iPhone X

Advantages:

  • Size: The tall and narrow 5.8-inch screen makes it hand-friendly
    Screen: The OLED display pops.
  • Rear cameras: You get everything with the iPhone X from the 2x optical zoom to the optical image stabilization on both lenses
  • Front camera: Includes the TrueDepth camera, which allows you to take Portrait photos. Also, allows you to do unique AR and 3D mapping tricks.
  • Face ID: Say bye to the Touch ID and welcome the Face ID.

Disadvantages:

  • App optimization: Not all apps perfectly fit the new display.
  • Battery life: The iPhone 8 Plus will get you through the day.
  • Interface changes: The interface is different so it’ll take time to get used to. There’s no more home button; get used to swiping down from now on.

The Verdict

So which one should I buy? iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X? Like we said in the beginning, you can’t really go wrong with either pick. If the price isn’t a factor, your decision should come down to which features are the most important to you.
