Ductless air conditioner also called a mini-split system, is a perfect heating and air conditioning solution for areas of your home or office that aren’t connected to the central heating or cooling system. This singular function makes ductless air conditioners one of the most economical and efficient cooling option available today — as long as you keep them properly maintained.

Even though most maintenance operations would be left to your A/C technician, there are some basic routine maintenance exercises you can carry out to keep your ductless air conditioning system functioning properly. Listed below are 5 maintenance tips that will keep your ductless air conditioner working perfectly:

1. Keep The Exposed Parts Clean

When you leave dust and debris to accumulate on the external parts of the A/C system, this may result in damages that will quickly lead to bigger problems and also reduce the efficiency of your mini-split system. All you need to do to prevent this is include your ductless A/C in your weekly cleaning routines. Clean off debris and dust on the external parts of A/C before wiping down with a damp cloth.

2. Create Enough Room For The A/C Unit

Even though mini-split air conditioners have little space requirement, it is still very much advisable to provide as much room for yours as possible. Keeping the unit a few distances away (at least 4 feet) from furniture and other home appliances will prevent it from collecting dust which could cause blockage in its vents over time.

3. Clean or Replace Filters Frequently

Nothing reduces the efficiency of a ductless air conditioner faster than a clogged filter. A clogged filter can reduce the efficiency of a mini-split system by as much as 20 percent. To save you needless repair cost, clean or replace your A/C filter as soon as it gets clogged or damaged. To get this done, follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to clean or change the filter of your ductless air conditioner.

4. Clean the coil and Condenser

The coil and condenser play powerful roles in the proper functioning of your mini-split system. To keep these exposed parts working properly, you need to constantly keep them free of dust and debris. To do this, ensure the A/C system if powered off, then use a garden hose to spray the system. This will do much of the cleaning, removing a lot of dust and debris. You can then clean up whatever dirt is left with a moist cloth.

5. Monitor the Pipes

Pipes that conveys cold/warm air into your home from the ductless A/C are quite delicate and can easily be damaged. These pipes also easily collect dirt from the environment. To ensure 100% efficiency of your ductless air conditioner, monitor the pipes closely to ensure there are no leaks and they are free of dirt and debris at all times.
