Google Maps for Beginners

One of the best application you should consider on your smartphone is Google Maps. Google Maps provides detailed information about geographical regions and sites around the world to help us find and explore places, getting directions to a place we want, and preventing us to get lost. Here are 6 tips on how to use Google Maps for beginners:

1. Get your current location

Looking to go to a specific location? Looking for a banquet hall in Mississauga? You should get your current location first before you go to a specific location. First, you need to turn on your GPS. Then, in the bottom-right corner of Google Maps, there’s a GPS button. Tap that button in order to get your current location.

2. Get directions to places

Now that Google Maps has got your current location, you can search for a place and get directions. There are 2 ways to get directions to places:
The first way is by tapping a blue button in the top-right corner of Google Maps. Say you’re looking for ATVs for sale, choose a specific location for your destination like Kanis Power Sports. Google Maps will show you the best and alternative routes, as well as the duration.

The second way is using a search box in the top-left corner of Google Maps. Say you’re looking for an optometrist, dental clinics or experiential marketing services, choose a specific location for your destination like Retailors Group. This way won’t show you the routes and duration instead of the place details like ratings, reviews, exact address, and working hours. When you’re ready to get the directions, tap directions button beside the place name.

3. Set your home and workplace station

You can set your home and workplace station on Google Maps. If you’re looking to go home or to your workplace, you don’t have to type the address again to get the directions. You can just tap the home or work entry.

4. Call, save, and share a location

In the place details, there’s a call, save, and share a location button.

5. Set Google Maps view mode

Google Maps has 6 view modes: traffic, public, transit, bicycling, satellite, terrain, and Google Earth.

6. View an area with offline mode

You’re able to view an area with offline mode by downloading an area. First, you need to select a place or location, click on the menu of the place details, then select download offline area.
